Public Hearing to Consider Increasing Property Tax Credit for Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company Members

The Bel Air Board of Town Commissioners will hold a public hearing on proposed Charter Resolution No. 134-21, amending Article VIII. Taxation Section 806. Tax Credit for Firemen Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. Members, of the Town Charter of the Town of Bel Air, and Ordinance No. 797-21, amending Bel Air Town Code Chapter 50 Finance and Taxation to include Article VII Property Tax Credit for Active Duty Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company Volunteer Members. This legislation seeks to increase the property tax credit, for volunteer firefighters and volunteer emergency medical technicians, as permitted by law, in Section 9-260 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, to encourage citizens to continue to serve, for many years to come, in the outstanding tradition of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company. Charter Res. No. 134-21 removes the old tax credit language from the Town Charter and Ord. No. 797-21 adds the new tax credit language to the Town Code. If passed, eligible citizens, will qualify for an annual property tax credit in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00), with a maximum credit per household of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00).
