Monday, May 1, 2023--The King & I

In 1951, Rodgers & Hammerstein continued their musical theater empire with this star making adaptation of Margaret Landon’s book “Anna and the King of Siam”. Written by Rodgers & Hammerstein at the height of their creative lives, this ground breaking American Musical  about the clash of two cultures remains relevant today. 

Monday, May 8, 2023--My Fair Lady

“My Fair Lady” was an instant hit in 1956, earning this masterpiece of musical theater a permanent place in the American Musical Theater repertoire. Learn about the lives of collaborators Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe, their working relationship, and the story behind both the stage and film productions of an iconic work. 

Monday, May 15, 2023--The Music Man

Meredith Willson’s homage to his Iowa roots has remained a favorite with audiences since it’s Tony award winning Broadway debut in 1957.  With iconic roles created by Robert Preston and Barbara Cook, and a new 2022 Broadway revival, River City is well worth a visit. 

About the Instructor

Julie Kurzava is a versatile singer, actor and writer who has performed professionally throughout the Mid-Atlantic, including the Columbia Orchestra, Germano’s Cabaret, Olney Theatre, the Maryland Renaissance Festival, and the Annapolis Opera. Julie is Executive Director of New Moon Theater, a non-profit touring theater and opera company, which creates and performs productions for family audiences at libraries, schools and museums. 

Julie is a popular lecturer on American Musical Theater and the American Songbook at life-long learning centers throughout the region, including the Peabody Conservatory Elderhostel/Road Scholar program and Towson University’s Osher program. She is on the music faculty at Loyola University Maryland and has degrees in Voice Performance from Northwestern University (BM) and the Peabody Conservatory (MM).

Since 2004, Julie has been the cantor at St. Ignatius Church in Baltimore. She lives in Catonsville with her husband and their teenaged son.

PARKING

Metered Parking is available on Main Street and at the Parking Garage (6 S. Hickory Ave). Please do not park in the private lot to the right side of the Armory. 6 drop off spaces will be available directly in front of the Armory.
