Kristien joins the Town Board of Commissioners with over 20 years of service to the Town on its Cultural Arts Commission. She comes from a family of volunteers and public servants for the Town. Her uncle, Chris Schlehr, was the Director of Public Works and later Town Administrator. Her father, Peter Schlehr, has been a member of the Planning Commission for four decades in addition to completing a term as a Town Commissioner. Kristien’s mother, Sandy Schlehr, has served with her on the Cultural Arts Commission where they worked on securing several murals and sculptures that are a part of the Town’s art walk.
As a life-long resident of Bel Air, Kristien attended Bel Air Elementary School, Bel Air Middle School, and The John Carroll School. She earned bachelor’s degrees in History and Communications and subsequently a master’s degree in Reading Instruction from Towson University. She recently retired from the Harford County Public Schools system after 30 years as an English and History teacher.
Kristien and her husband Kevin, a graduate of Bel Air High School, raised three children. They currently have six grandchildren. The couple has had the distinct honor of portraying Santa and Mrs. Clause in the Annual Bel Air Christmas parade for a number of years. The Fosses are active members of The Cathedral Church of Reconciliation where their oldest son serves in ministry.
